This commercial item description covers pre-moistened pads to remove inks and other office soils from hands.
SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
The finished product shall consist of 50 pads, moistened with a cleaning solution and packaged in a plastic bag and put into a tight fitting recloseable plastic container.
Pad dimension. Each pad shall have a minimum surface area of 7.0 square inches and shall be round or square.
Odor. The odor of the pad shall not be stronger than that of undiluted isopropanol when tested in accordance with ASTM D 1296.
Cleaning solution. The cleaning solution shall be non-toxic and non-hazardous to human healt.
Weight of cleaning solution. Each container with 50 pads shall contain at least 90.0 grams of cleaning solution, when tested as follows:
Record the weight of three unopened containers as a tare weigh. Remove pads from each container and evaporate off cleaning solution by drying in a 150oC oven overnight. (Dry plastic containers and bags separately. They may melt.). Reweigh the dried cleaning pads and containers with bag and calculate in the following manner:
Total weight of cleaning solution = Tare weight – (Wt. of containers w/bag + dried cleaning pads)
pH. The extracted cleaning solution at 25oC shall be 6.0 to 9.0 pH units, when tested in accordance with ASTM E &).
Performance. The wet pad shall not stain white paper or cloth, shall not shred or pill, or cause irritation to skin. Two cleaning pads shall be capable of completely removing the test soil from the palm of hand, except for soil which is embedded creases of the skin.
Standard test soil. The standard test soils shall consist of:
Ball point pen ink, black Four lines of 2.54 cm (1 inch) long.
Felt tip marker ink, black Area of 2.54 cm (1 inch) diameter
Stamp pad ink, black Area of 2.54 cm (1 inch) diameter
Procedure. Uniformly mark palm of one hand with above soiling media. Wait for 1 minute, then wipe the soiled area with both sides of the pads. Test pads shall not separate or unravel during use. In addition, after cleaning and drying, the hand shall be free from any visible, sticky or gritty residue left from the non-volatile matter of the cleaning solution.
MSDS. A Material Safety Data Sheet shall be prepared and submitted in accordance with the latest issue of FED-STD-313.
